Te Wahine Ka Tohe

Te Wahine Ka Tohe is a portrait of resilience, strength, and quiet defiance. The figure sits calmly, not as someone defeated, but as someone who has survived the weight of other people’s judgement, criticism, and hidden intentions.

The woman represents the person who knows there are those who hope to see her fall, those who whisper, doubt, or pray for her downfall. Yet she remains grounded. Her posture is not one of surrender, it is one of reflection, patience, and inner power. She does not need to fight every battle because her survival is already her victory.

Te wahine ka tohe is not about the people who wished for her downfall. It is about the moment they realise she was never falling, she was becoming stronger.

" They prayed for her ending. She answered by continuing".

Original Artwork

Acrylic Paint

36 X 49 Inch

Using only a standard house painting brush, a tool normally associated with walls, construction, and everyday labour rather than fine art. The use of a simple, brush reflects the message of the work. Srength does not come from having perfect tools or ideal conditions, it comes from determination and the ability to create something powerful from what is available.

The broad, expressive marks created by the paint brush give the painting its raw energy. Every stroke carries movement and emotion, some controlled, some imperfect, but all intentional. The limitations of the brush became part of the artwork,  allowing the figure to emerge through bold strokes, contrast, and instinctive mark rather than delicate detail.
